Minoura RDA80D Rimdrive Trainer Reviews
15 of 15 people found the following review helpful Works Great!, August 28, 2007 By Jenn (Anchorage, AK United States) - See all my reviews I had previously purchased the Blackburn trainer, but returned it because it was noisy.
I like the Minoura 850 trainer better because it is quieter. The rim drive doesn't come into contact with the rim of the back tire, making it a smoother and quieter ride. There are many levels of resistance, so this is great for any level of rider.
My husband set it up for me in minutes and it is really sturdy!

It is easy to set up and use, and quick to disengage when you want to take your bike out for some air. I've used it daily since purchasing it. The cost varies greatly on the Internet, so shop around. There are many bike trainers out there, but few that will work well with mountain bike tires.

I bought the "dial" versus the remote version - your own bike's gears are the best resistance adjustment you can have!
My set-up is a Trek 820 - Even though this rim driven unit doesn't care what tires you have, I changed the stock knobbies to Kenda Kross Plus Front/Rear Slick XC Tire, 26 x 1.95" (road bike manners w/ trail edges). Popping your bike in and out of the unit is a snap. I takes all of 20 seconds to mount or unmount the bike. Great in Spring/Fall when you can occasionally get outside.
Anyway, this thing is solid to the core. Whisper quiet (not having owned a tire-drive unit, I can't compare, but this thing has zero sound). I had 4 months of heavy use on it last winter, and couldn't be happier. Price was lower last year - I think I bought from "GreenMountain" (through Amazon) for about $132... Read more
