5.0 out of 5 stars Very fast race tire, January 17, 2011
January 17, 2011: I have worn through about 6 sets of these tires and have not had a single instance similar to the previous reviewer's where the bead separated from the casing resulting in blow out. Im not saying it cant happen, just that in my experience it has not. Flaws like this are an issue with just about any tire sooner or later.

Otherwise they are one of the finest riding clincher tires available and have extremely low rolling resistance especially when combined with a quality latex tube. These are my go to race tires - 700x23 front and rear with Michelein or Bontrager latex tubes with 100psi front and 105 psi rear. I am 6'3" 178lbs and yes, you dont need any more pressure than that! Higher pressure does NOT equate to better rolling resistance just a harsher ride and less traction. Look it up.

UPDATE 11/1/11:
OK now I can say I experienced the bead separating from casing as described above in reference to another reviewer. Tire blew out in a high... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Exploded after 5 miles, September 4, 2010

I have pretty mixed feelings about this tire. On one hand, it rode beautifully, absorbing small bumps and had great feel compared to my old tires. On the other hand, The rear tire exploded after 5- yes five miles of riding. After I got home, I found that the kevlar bead wire had completely separated from the rest of the tire. Not sure if this is a manufacturing error, or just a bad design in which the tire that wraps around the bead is too thin. All I can say is thank goodness it was the rear tire and I was on flat ground, I was able to get it under control and stop without an issue, but what if I had been going down hill and it had been the front? For that I have to give this 1 star even though they rode nice when they worked.

Update

After countless miles and a triathlon on the new tire and they perform great. I have had zero durability issues as I did with the one rear tire. I will say, that even with the blowout, I STILL have more... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast - but lots of flats, March 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This is a racing clincher. It is fast and very smooth. Excellent handling. I got 4 puncture flats and 4 pinch flats in 1,800 miles. The tires were cut and sliced quite a bit. After these tires I went with Continental GP 4000 S. After 1,300 miles - no flats on the 4000 S tires - hardly a scratch on them. Same roads - same riding conditions. The Continental GP 4000 S tire is bullet proof - a great training tire. The Vitoria however provides a lot less rolling resistance. For me averaging 19 - 20 mph on the same 90 minute loop - it took 21 more watts to achieve the exact same average speed on the Continental tires. Generally the Vitoria tire at the same power would deliver about 0.4-0.5 mph greater speed. I rated this Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX with 5 stars because it is so fast and smooth! If you don't care about the speed and don't want to risk the flats - I recommend the Continental GP 4000 S.
